Groom your eyebrows
A good pair of eyebrows can enhance your looks. Here's how to go about it...
If you think you don't have the perfect eyebrows, you can easily get a pair by following these easy tricks.
Get your tools
To flaunt a set of striking eyebrows, you need the perfect tools. For example, gather tweezers, a spoolie brush, a pair of small eyebrow grooming scissors and a brow pencil. These tools will help you groom your eyebrows properly.
Map it well
Use the end of your tweezers or the end of your spoolie brush to line it vertically along the outer edge of the bottom of your nose. Then, use an eyebrow pencil to draw a line to mark the start of each eyebrow. But when you are doing this, make sure that the space above the bridge of your nose is centred and pluck the stray hair in this area.
Find the end lines
An excellent way to sport the perfect eyebrows is by lining the ends. Take the end of your tweezer or brush and line it up against your cheek with the top at the end of your nose and the other end at the corner of your eye. Take an eyebrow pencil and draw a line where your hair should end. Tweeze any hair outside the line.
Lift your brows
A great way to groom your eyebrows is by brushing it upwards. This way, your brows will look fuller and its hairs trimmed. Also, carefully snip any hairs that are longer than your natural brow line.
Shape your brows
No matter what your brow type is — bushy or thin, you can always shape them well. If you have bushy eyebrows, try tweezing the underside of your brows to open up the eye area. If you have thin brows, use an eyebrow pencil or brow powder to draw the shape over your brow before you start tweezing. You can then trim outside of the shape.

Do acne scars bother you?
How to get rid of them
Use targeted treatments: The best way to treat acne marks is by preventing it during the healing process. You should ideally target the acne and use a spottreatment that will prevent it from breaking out further.
Choose the right products: Another way to treat marks left by pimples is by opting for skincare products that cater to . Farheen Shaikh, beauty expert, "AHAs such as Glycolic Acid is excellent for reducing the appearance of acne scars. Kojic Acid and vitamin-C are also believed to reduce scarring."
Never forget sun protection:Exposing acne scars to the harmful UV rays of the sun will darken it all the more. The rays of the sun stimulate pigment-producing cells, which make the scars much more noticeable.
Treat hyper-pigmentation: Says Shaikh, "The only way to treat hyper-pigmentation is by applying Kojic Acid. It encourages skin discolouration to lighten by helping to inhibit the formation of pigment in the skin's cells.
Don't over-scrub: Scarring takes place when you use exfoliating agents too often. The rough granules, which are used to get rid of blackheads, irritate acne and lead to scarring.
Types of acne scars
Acne scarring need not necessarily be of one type. More severe scarring is usually known as an 'ice pick'. These scars are jagged and shallow or deep like ice-pick stabs. They occur as a result of deep tissue loss from nodular acne.
Follicular macular atrophy:
These are small, soft and white lesions, which look like tiny whiteheads just under the surface of your skin. They tend to appear on your chest and back.
Atrophic macules: They are soft and sometimes wrinkled. They can also appear blue because of the blood vessels that lie directly under the scar.
Soft scars: They have sloping or rolling edges that seem to merge with your normal skin. They are most often circular, linear or small.
Depressed fibrotic scars: These scars are steep, large and sharp. Icepick scars, over time, can also develop into depressed fibrotic scars. WHAT YOU
Need to keep in mind
To prevent scarring, visit a dermatologist before you begin any treatment.
Avoid picking and squeezing them
Acne marks are usually formed during the healing process. When you start picking on it, it automatically increases the chances of the marks staying back because of the trauma you inflicted on it.

History of nail polish
Originally, henna was used to paint the nails of mummified pharaohs in the ancient world.
In 3,000 BC, China used metallic nail polish to distinguish between the ruling class and the general population.
Before nitrocellulose (key ingredient in nailpaints today) was introduced, powder or cream polish was buffed onto nails with a cloth.
Nail polish became more common among women at the end of the 18th century, but it wasn't until the 20th century that manicure establishments really became popular.
Black nail polish first became a trend in the 1930s. In England, women began to get scenic landscapes painted on their nails.
After colour television was introduced, we saw an evolution of natural, pastel and neon nail polish trends through the 60s right till today.

How to make your own aloe vera gel at home
Making aloe vera gel at home is super easy, very inexpensive and far better for skin than the many gels available in the market.
First wash your hands and then cut off some leaves from the aloe vera plant. Then leave the leaves in upright position for a few minutes to let the darker resin drain out.
After the resin has drained, wash the leaves and start peeling off the thick skin with a knife, leaving you with the transparent gel.
Place the gel into a blender and also add a few drops of either grapefruit seed extract, vitamin Cpowder, vitamin E oil or some essential oil to help preserve the gel for longer period.
Then blend everything, pour into a clean glass jar and you've got some fresh aloe vera gel which can be kept for several months in the refrigerator.

Toad leather bags are now top accessory
If the French like frogs and toads as delicacies to eat, a new fashion fad emerging from Australia and Europe shows that toad skin bagsand wallets are the new 'it' accessories among fashionistas.
Australian cane toad skin seems to be fast replacing snake and crocodile skin as far as bags and accessories go. Some of the top designers in Europe, especially in Poland, seem to be taking fancy to these toad skins.
While some of the other leather from animals make it to garments as well, the toad skin is used in whole, retaining its physical form, to give the fashionistas an edgy accessory.
Polish designer Monika Jarosz is one such person who seems to fancy using toad skin as anaccessory for both men and women, where she has used them on wallets, purses and bags.
While the use of toad skin has been around for the past couple of years, the fashion world seems to have taken notice of this only in the past few months.
While the trend hasn't reached American and Asian high streets yet, the fashion pundits say that the chic lot have already embraced the fad in these continents after their Europe trips.

A stitch in time for Jaisalmer women
For fashion designer Tahir Sultan, creativity is one thing he values the most. It is but for him that today the NGO 'I Love Jaisalmer' he founded this year has become a beacon of hope for women from Jaisalmer.
In December last year, Tahir went to Jaisalmer to visit a friend, Manvendra Singh Shekhawat who owns a boutique hotel that lies 15 kms away from Jaisalmer's historical fort. He told Tahir about his passion for the city and said how much he would like to give back to the community. Manvendra also expressed his intention to help the people of Jaisalmer and that he wanted to do something constructive for the community. Tahir immediately latched on to this idea, and decided to help move things along. "While I worked with the village women and set up an infrastructure for design, production and quality control in order to produce home accessories, Manvendra went about clearing the city, the fort and some of the historical sites, ridding them of years of garbage," says Tahir. What made the difference is the fact that Tahir managed to tap into the potential of these women, who, he knew, were cut out for this job. No wonder, a remarkable change has come over the lives of these women in the last few months thanks to the platform given by this NGO.
The village that 'I Love Jaisalmer' works with is Mulana. Tucked away 50 kms outside Jaisalmer, it lies in the middle of the desert and the people live in white cottages with thatched roofs. The women are hard working, and through a sustained educational programme, have become very enthusiastic about the cushions they produce. All the cushions are hand stitched. The older women teach this skill and technique to younger volunteers. They get paid by the piece and the sale of these cushions help empower them, giving them financial freedom. Part of the money earned goes towards maintaining Shri Jawahar Hospital. Plus now, their efforts are reaching places as far as Delhi, where Kitsch is focusing on giving back to the society by joining hands to support Tahir Sultan and the 'I Love Jaisalmer' organization. It will also retail these handcrafted cushions and the entire proceed will go towards supporting women and children in Jaisalmer.

Magic food swaps for weight loss
January 24. That's the day, according to a survey conducted in the UK, when most people are likely to break their resolve. With the excitement of the New Year withering away each day, unhealthy habits creep back into lifestyles.
The problem, says nutritionist Suman Agarwal, is that most patients who come to her with weight loss dilemmas aim for the moon without any plan at hand or not having judged their own capabilities — often leading to failure. "Instead of choosing an unachievable diet that you will despise, opt for simple food swaps that can wean you off unhealthy components in your diet," she says.
Edsel Miranda, 26, aviation consultant
Weighs 79 kg, wants to lose 9 kg: I begin my day with a glass of hot water followed by breakfast which includes a boiled or fried egg with green/black tea. This is followed by a cutting chai at my Andheri office. Lunch is usually a vegetarian thali at a restaurant near office that includes a kofta preparation or aloo paneer, dal with two chapatis and a small portion of rice. The evening snack depends on what I find at the street stalls, I tend to go for a sev puri or pani puri, in case I can't find a sandwich. I have my dinner at 9 pm at home which is a fish or chicken dish with vegetables and two chapatis.
Agarwal's advice
Edsel should drop the yolk and go for egg whites for breakfast, cooked in olive oil, which is high in HDL. Egg whites cost you 12 calories while yolks are about 60. He must switch to oats (it cuts bad cholesterol) in low fat milk. Cut the kofta and try okra, or cabbage preparation. Choose between rice and chapati for each meal and add a raita to the mix. The street snack must go. Instead, go for a fistful of dry fruits like pistachios, or walnuts. Swap the chicken curry for a grilled chicken breast. He could substitute potato with broccoli for the side dish.
Karen Miranda, 24, software developer
Wants to cure sun allergy called light sensitivity: I have a quick breakfast at home before heading to work. This includes toast with jam or cheese, a bowl of cereal or bacon, eggs and bread. I carry lunch from home, which includes two chapatis and a sabzi or a pulao or simply fried rice. I tend not to snack in between meals. Dinner includes a chicken or fish curry dish and bread. I wrap it up with a sweet that's usually Indian mithai or chocolate left over in the fridge.
Agarwal's advice
Swap the cheese toast for yogurt that has probiotic benefits, muesli or an egg white omelette. Rice should be consumed within three hours of preparation or it's no good. Karen should do away with the fried rice and go for a chicken, paneer or rajma wrap that will add protein to her high-carb diet. Many people are allergic to tyramines present in processed cheese. One must observe the effects it has on the skin. Fish is rich in Vitamin E, which is good for the skin. The gaps between her meals are long. She should add a yogurt snack or cream crackers or fruit.
Aafrin Khan, 24, student and homemaker
Haemoglobin count 10, must raise it to 12: I don't drink tea or coffee and try to include plenty of juices in my diet. My breakfast is an omelette and chapati, washed down with fruit juice. Lunch is a home-cooked meal that includes rice, chapati, dal, leafy vegetables and a chicken or fish preparation. Dinner is usually the same as lunch. I munch on farsan in the evening, order a samosa or make myself a sandwich. I have a glass of milk before I go to bed.
Agarwal's advice
The fact that most of her meals are home-cooked is a good start. Khan needs to add iron to her diet. I suggest replacing the fruit juice with a vegetable juice. Add spinach leaves, tomato, carrot, a small piece of beetroot, cabbage and amla to make the most effective vegetable juice. Switch the samosa with a fibre element like fruit. Dates are an excellent source of iron, add two to your snack.

Top 20 natural ways for great hair
Spending too much on expensive shampoos, but not getting the desired results that you see in TV ads? It is mostly possible and very common, because we see overly exaggerated results on TV, since these ads are designed to attract customers.
But, reality speaks a different story. Instead of spending on those branded shampoos and conditioners, Dr. Sandeep Suttar - Hair Restoration and Skin Rejuvenation surgeon at Hairrevive, Mumbai, shares some natural ways to get great hair. Follow these easy and simple steps to give that luster and shine to your hair, and flaunt your hair like the models do...
Egg treatment
Use the entire egg to condition your hair. If you have dry or brittle hair, use egg whites to moisturize your hair. Use ½ cup of any egg mixture (egg white, entire egg) and apply to clean, damp hair. Leave it for 20 minutes and rinse with cool water.
Cleanliness is important
The most important reason for hair fall is dandruff and itchy scalp. Therefore, maintain good cleanliness for beautiful and healthy hair.
Avoid hot water
Skip hot water showers, because hot water will make your hair dry and brittle as it strips protective oils from your hair - says Dr. Suttar. Thus, prefer a temperature which is just a bit warmer than your body temperature.
Bottle gourd treatment
Extract some bottle gourd juice and apply it into your hair. Keep this solution for half an hour and wash it off thoroughly.
For that shiny soft hair
Prepare a mixture of 1 cup of your daily conditioner and 2-3 tablespoons of honey. Apply this mixture evenly on your wet hair. Leave it for 30 minutes and wash it off thoroughly. This mixture will close down your hair's cuticle and give your hair that amazing shine.
Baking soda therapy
Make a mixture of 3 tbsp. of baking soda and some water. Rinse your hair with this solution after shampooing. Let it set in for at least 5 minutes before the final rinse. This therapy will help to remove the excess shampoo and styling product from your hair.
For bouncy hair
Apply a one to one mixture of warm water and apple cider vinegar to your hair. Rinse it thoroughly after 5 minutes to get rid of the apple cider smell.
Don't wash your hair frequently
Wash your hair every 2-3 days, for proper regulation of natural hair oils. Washing your hair less often will also help regain your hair's natural body and luster.
Make your conditioner
For a protein packed conditioner, mix eggs and yogurt and rub it into your scalp. Leave on for five or 10 minutes, and then wash it off completely.
For strong hair
Use almond oil to treat dry and damaged hair. It is a very simple procedure, pour some almond oil in a bowl and heat it for 40 seconds. Then evenly distribute on your hair. Leave it for 30 minutes and then rinse normally with shampoo and conditioner using cold water.
Say bye-bye to dull hair with lemon juice
After the final rinse, apply 1 tsbp lemon juice to your hair. Simply towel dry your hair and style as normal to get rid of dry hair.
Use protection before you jump into the pool
Pools can do great damage to your hair as it contains harsh chemicals - says Dr Suttar. He says; prevent your hair from the pool damage by simply applying a little conditioner to your hair before you swim. This will protect your hair before it comes in contact with the pool water.
Treat sun damaged hair
Make a mixture of ½ cup honey, 1-2 tbsp olive oil and 1-2 tbsp of egg yolk. Apply this mixture on your hair for 20 minutes and then rinse with warm water. This treatment will help to replenish keratin protein bonds - says Dr. Suttar.
Tight is NO-NO
To prevent breakage due to brittle hair avoid using bands and do not tie your hair too tightly.
The proper brushing technique
Avoid using a comb with plastic bristles to prevent hair breakage from static electricity. The best way to brush your hair is by first brushing the ends to remove tangles and then take the long stokes from the roots of the hair to the ends. This technique will help proper spreading of natural hair oil and thus prevent breakage.
Moisturize your hair
Pour a little beer in your wet hair. Distribute evenly and massage your scalp with your fingers for 20 minutes. Then rinse it thoroughly to get rid of the beer smell. Do this procedure once a week for salon smooth hair. Dr. Suttar says- it is recommended that people with sinus and cold should avoid using this treatment.
Trim your hair regularly
Get your hair trimmed at least every six weeks to eliminate dry, split ends.
Do not brush wet hair
Wet hair is three times weaker and thus more likely to break - says Dr. Suttar. He recommends, towel dry your hair first and then gently detangle your hair using a wide tooth comb.
Let your hair air-dry
Allow your hair to dry by itself instead of using a blow-dryer or hot rollers. Using this artificial mode of drying technique will make your hair more brittle and dry. If you have no time to let your hair air dry, then use blow-dryer sparingly and make sure you use a warm setting instead of a hot setting.
Good diet
Drink lots of water and eat a healthy diet of raw fruits and vegetables. The most effective home treatment for hair care is a healthy diet. You are what you eat, and what you put into your body will be reflected on the outside.

Ready-made phetas: The new fashion trend in colleges
Some don it just for style, others to celebrate traditional day and still others to make a fashion statement in fests.
The saffron-coloured pheta is the latest fashion trend in colleges. One notices the boys opting for traditional colours - pink and saffron; while the girls are more experimental in terms of colour and drape. When it comes to the girls, the brighter the colours, the better.
Not everyone has mastered the art of perfectly draping the phetas thus most make a beeline for stores with ready-made ones. These have become quite a craze among students in the last couple of months. "We introduced the small, medium and large sized ready-made phetas and received a very good response from youngsters. Students who want to make a 'quick' fashion statement generally opt for these as they require no time to drape or remove," says Aslam, owner of one of the oldest city-based pheta shops.
Students reveal how earlier, during traditional days at colleges, they would queue up in front of shops to have the phetas draped. "Thus the ready-made ones were born out of necessity," Aslam says. Other stores followed suit and now these ` 30-priced phetas are a must-have for students. "Apart from college fests, the traditional phetas have always found place in social gatherings, marriages and other functions," adds Riyaz, owner of another pheta shop.
Colourful Kolhapuris: From city to ramps
The hand crafted Kolhapuri Chappals are the pride of the city. From the traditional royal patterns to the slick brightly coloured, youngsters in the city are experimenting with the footwear, which is exported to various parts of the world. In fact, the Kolhapuris are now making a fashion statement at rampwalks as well. Shivaji Market, which boasts of more than 20 shops have experimented with colours and patterns. Bright colours including fluroscent greens, pinks and blues are a hot favourite.
Seeped in tradition
Be it junk or traditional, the Kolhapuri Saaj jewellery has its loyal takers in the city. Adorned in the traditional thushi pattern, saaj necklaces have been defining Kolhapuri fashion for several years now. And owners of jewellery shops which sell saaj ornaments have kept the tradition intact. "Kolhapur is known for this pattern of jewellery. The saaj necklaces don't take much time to be made. Our jewellery designers always stick to a certain kind of tradition," says Dhanesh Samani, owner of a jewellery shop located at the Mahalakshmi Temple.
The jewellers stick to the traditional design, which has become popular across Maharashtra. The base of the pendants is made in the workshops and takes two days to be completed. The jewellery has intricate imitation gold work. The necklaces have one big pendant in the centre and the chain strung with 20 smaller pendants.

Chunky rings, a fashion statement
Looks like small isn't always beautiful. At least not when it comes to fashion accessories.
Fashion in present times is a lot about display, and hence, even rings need to be big, chunky and high on bling! "The one piece of focus jewellery that is in vogue today is the huge ring," says designer Alpana Gujral.
Well, in B'wood, the ladies sure are the 'Lordess of Rings,' be it Ash, Sush, Shilpa or Tabu, with each of them flaunting big dazzlers on their fingers. Besides, there are celebs, who sport gems for astrological reasons, but of course they do so with a lot of flamboyance. "For a woman, it's the visibility of the jewellery that matters, be it in a ring or a neckpiece," says designer Rajiv Arora, who's recently designed rings for Hollywood star, Halle Berry.
And, the 'ring bearers' don't mind experimenting with bold designs, that range from floral chunks and animal replicas to geometric shapes and ethnic rings. As for the colour spectrum, it's wide. "Blue topaz and different shades of tourmaline are in vogue. Coral carved stone rings and the ones carrying miniature paintings as designs are also in demand," says Rajiv and Alpana adds, "Emerald and ruby rings make a cool style statement." As for metals, white gold and silver rule.

Crop tops from the 90s are back
Here's how it can make a comeback to your wardrobe
Summer may be past us, but with the number of people baring their midriff, it's evident that the trend is no longer dependent on only the season. Crop tops and bralets, the big trend from the 90s, is literally back with a bang and celebrities around the world have welcomed it to their wardrobes.
In fact, the mini top has now become a street style vital. While wearing a crop top can up your look by a notch or two, getting it wrong can make you a fashion offender of the worst kind. Here are a few know-hows to sport that little piece of clothing. Stylist Chandni Bahri says, "It is a fine line between being chic and trashy. Proportions are of utmost importance — pair bralets with high-waist or mid-rise pants/ skirts. Layer them with jackets and shirts for the day. The best thing about a crop top is that you can play with proportions once you understand them."
Choose to flaunt as much as an inch of midriff to the entire torso. There are no rules that define how much midriff is too much, but know where to stop. Just flaunt what is comfortable. If done right, crop tops can be very retro chic and young.
Adds stylist Daena Sethna, "If you have not crossed the fleshold, then the crop top is definitely a must-have in your wardrobe. Wear it with shorts for a casual day look. Or on a high waist, slim fit skirt for a chic corporate look. Team it with a pair of palazzo pants for a fun night out with the girls or with a pleated maxi skirt for a coffee date."
Accessorise well
- Flaunt that sexy belly button piercing with your crop top
- Is there a body chain in your jewellery box that you're waiting to wear? Remember how Rihanna tucked a body chain under her crop top and teamed it with a high-waisted leather skirt and a pair of sneakers. Try that.
- To show just a sliver of your tummy, wear a long crop top
- You can also pull a crop top over a high-waisted skirt
- Wear a tank top or a vest beneath your crop top. You can play with prints when you try this look
- A jacket over your crop top helps you show off minimum skin
- Pull a crop top in mesh over a well-fitted dress. Team this up with a large envelope clutch and a lovely pair of heels; be a head turner.
- Crop tops look great with overalls; this way you bare scant skin.

5 best fashion trends for winter
TNN Jan 6, 2014, 02.19PM IST
There's a slight chill in the air and it can only mean one thing- winter is fast approaching the city.
Though Mumbai doesn't experience the winter chill in all its essence, there's no reason why one should shirk away from trying on these fashionable winter trends that are sure to set the fashion meters soaring.
Colour of the season: Charcoal
Charcoal is typically a classic colour that complements not only the weather but goes surprisingly well with brighter shades as well. What makes this colour undoubtedly the colour of the season, is the fact that it works well both as a casual wear as well as a formal wear.
Look of the season: Grunge
Oversized sweaters, long blazers, boyfriend jeans or the messed up hair do, the fashionable antidote for the season is loose, almost mannish couture. You can't go wrong with winter trends. That's the one time of the year when you can go overboard with your layering or trying on new, rough looks like grunge or punk.
Style of the season: Layering
Minimal dressing is passe. Winters are that time of the year when you wear multiple layers and experiment with colours and sizes as much as you desire. Layering is fun; you can use short, summery clothes and give them a sharp winter twist. You can also mix and match colours by wearing one bright and one softer shade.
Trend of the season: Tartan
Never more perfect than in the winters, checks, tartans and plaids have been a timeless trend for ages. This is one fashion trend that is a must-have in every girl's wardrobe especially during the winters. Loose, baggy tartan shirts, well fitting tartan skirts, or head to toe plaids with contradicting patterns, you can't go wrong with this look.
Fashion statement of the season: Hats
Not only do hats keep you ears and head warm, if worn right, they can be quite the style statement. Beanies, wool caps, trapper hats or cloches, hats are a fashionable way to stay warm. Leave your hair loose for a pretty, retro look. Not only an interesting wear for women, hats can look really classy on men if work right, a classic example of just how sexy this look can be on men are Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt who've both been caught multiple times donning this look.

Accessories go quirky and bold
From Hollywood celebrities to Bollywood divas, quirky, dramatic and vibrant coloured jewelries are flaunted on more than one occasion, be it on international ramps, global film festivals, parties, awards nights and functions.
Nitya Arora whose accessories are currently seen on several Bollywood A-listers says, "The coming season is all about flaunting statement pieces in vibrant, funky colours. However the accessories that are going to be seen almost everywhere are earcuff, chokers, statement neckpieces, maangtikka, head gears, huge statement earrings and cuffs. This year is going to see a lot of chains with name tags and midi-rings on gold and rose gold. Accessories that are edgy and quirky with a lot of Indian and tribal accents are catching up. Apart from this claw nails, horns and tusks are going to be used in jewelleries. More people will catch on to this trend as young women are open to experiment with such unconventional pieces.
A lot of jewelleries with Indian and tribal accents were seen internationally this year. With Vidya Balan and Sonam Kapoor flaunting the nathni (nose-ring) at Cannes it has definitely secured a place at international platforms. A lot of fusion jewelleries are also making headlines, simple traditional Indian accessories like bangle, anklets, earrings are given a bold avatar by adding pop-up colours and tribal designs and patterns to it. "The coming season is all about flaunting statement pieces on simpler outfits with defining cuts and bold silhouettes. Neckpieces, huge earrings and cuffs with spikes, rhinestones, diamante, semi-precious stones and bright colours are in vogue. Apart from these, chunky bracelets are also a rage," says Avani Bhansali a fashion store owner.
Headgear
"Head gears with colourful stones, defined cuts, sharp tribal figurines, natural motifs blended with soft candy colours were seen a lot internationally. Maangtikkas are going to be big in the coming seasons," suggests Nitya.
Huge statement earrings
"Big, bold, huge and chunky earrings in bright pop-up colours with natural or tribal motifs are in vogue. Wear them on traditional outfits, gowns, fusion wear or even on casuals as they look great," asserts Radhika.
Hair accessories
Hair accessory designer Sugandh says, "Hair accessories like bows and neonclips, shimmery/bling/flowery hairbands, lace or studded head wraps are pretty much in vogue. If you are a first time user of hair accessories, then go slow and experiment a little before sporting the same, while be sure to steer clear away from scrunchies, metal head chains, banana clips and silicon rubber bands."
Statement neckpieces
"Neckpieces which has serpentine designs and colours to it are also climbing the ladder. Oversized blingy neckpieces on gold, dull gold or matte gold are very much in rage. Apart from that neon or pop-up coloured chokers, peter-pan collars, collar necklaces in vintage lace, rhinestones, semi-precious stones and in neon colours are going to be seen a lot. These collars can be worn on traditional, casual and formal outfits," says accessory designer Radhika Agarwal.
Ear cuffs
Ear cuffs are the latest object of obsession for international beauties like Cara Delevingne, Jennifer Lawrence and many others while at home stars like Sonam Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez and Vidya Balan have flaunted them with elan. A simple solid coloured outfit coupled with oodles of confidence and earcuffs in gold or solid coloured with studs will definitely turn many heads.
Cuffs/chunky bracelets
The last wedding/festive season saw a lot of bracelets, cuffs and colourful bangles adorned on traditional attires and this trend is going to continue. Chunky bracelets or cuffs are one of the best pieces of jewelries to put on a confusing day, as it goes with all kinds of outfits. Cuffs with a heady concoction of different materials like spikes, diamantes, trinklets, neons along with bold designs are in rage. Another option in this section are candy coloured bangles.

Jewelled shoe and its butterfly effect
You must agree when we say this, nothing dates faster than the toe of a shoe, apart, possibly, from the heel of one.
Dispute this if you will. Drag out an old pair. That heel may be called a kitten once upon a time, but it's far stubbier than the kittens you see today. Or how about that platform that was ubiquitous up to a year ago? Or what about the ghastly peep-toe that blotted our land for at least five years and is now blotting landfills?
So you'd agree that we are right! If you are thinking that jewelled shoe is not your cup of tea due to its blingyness, then know this: although it is stark and imposing, with some twiddly bits, it can straighten out your outfit in a jiffy. Every wardrobe needs a pair of jewelled stilettos, no matter how minimalist/shabby chic/butch it is.
The jewelled shoe looks high maintenance and aloof, but like Uma Thurman it can kick butt and has a touch of the earth mother. What's best is that your jewelled shoe will boss whatever else you're wearing into shape. Going to a do from work? Shove on the jewelled trotters with your trousers/jeans/hotpants/grunge-maxi and you're done. Should you find yourself having to hide your jewels under a table, don't sulk. The mere act of wearing jewelled shoes will have had a butterfly effect on the rest of you and, somehow, you will have ramped up your make-up or hair, just enough, to complete the glamorous picture. It's the best way to kick off the rest of your outfit into shape.

The magic of white in your wardrobe
Sometimes what you dismiss on the catwalk as perversely unappealing turns out to be a brilliant addition to the civilization.
This is precisely what mostly happens to the colourwhite. It is considered just a commodity. It comes around most summers which is why it is called summer white. Every year the glossy covers show pristine permutations of white, and every year most women conveniently ignore them. Especially true for Chennai where ladies ignore white for the abundance of the sun and heat which leads to tanning. And in India, tan is a no-no, unlike in the west.
But white can look very modern. 'Modern' is the most overused word in the fashion lexicon. But in this instance, it's replete with significance.
White can be worn with anything, even with white. It's not just a Wimbledon outfit; tennis players do not do justice to it anyways.
Wear white with a long black silk evening skirt, and it becomes a playful, slightly casual but still glamorous combination. Slip it over navy or black jumpers, and it has a useful monochromatic effect. While wearing white, the operative word is blocking. You can go head-to-toe white as well, but it may look too dull. In any case, you can make it pop with red or neon accessories.
When worn closer to the face like a shirt, a jacket or even a scarf, white can have a glowing effect on your skin. It prevents pastels from becoming too saccharine, has a toning effect on neons and brights, and adds zest to neutrals like grey or camel.
Tip
When you want to try on white, invert the usual stacking arrangement. You don't always have to wear white above the waist and a darker colour waist down. When wearing white waist down, always look for the right fabric and a good cut — white skirts and trousers don't have to be figure-sabotaging.
Avoid tight and sheer, get washable material, get the lingerie right (nude or pale pink; counter-intuitively white underwear shows through under white).

Give your wardrobe a touch of rose gold
Rose gold has been on the fashion scene for a while now. It was quite a popular colour for jewellery and watches last year, but this season, it will be seen a lot on clothing too.
So if you want to be on-trend, you need to have at least one item of clothing in this colour. Here are a few different ways that you can include rose gold in your wardrobe.
Bracelets
A rose-gold bracelet has to be a statement piece. Depending on the kind of bracelet it is, it can be teamed with Indian or western wear. But make sure that there is no clash of colours.
Earrings
This is perhaps the easiest way to wear a particular trend. Rose-gold earrings definitely look stunning, especially if they are diamond-encrusted.
Neckpiece
A chain and pendant look elegant in rose gold. And if you are a minimum-jewellery person, this should be your bet to add a little bit of variety to your wardrobe.
Ring
Rose gold is made primarily by blending copper with gold, and the more rosy the colour, the more copper it contains. So if you like the colour and want something different for your engagement ring, then the rose-gold variety is for you. A lot of cocktails rings in rose gold are available too.
Shoes
This may come as a surprise to some, but rose-gold shoes can actually look quite good, provided the attention is only on the shoes.
Watches
Different brands have rose-gold watch options that stand out. However, a lot depends on the wearer's complexion.
Gowns
Actress and fashionista Deepika Padukone is one of Bollywood's style trend-setters. So it's hardly surprising that she was one of the first in the industry to be spotted wearing the trend. At her success bash, the actress sported a fashionable rose-gold gown and looked every bit the diva in it.
